TL;DR

Dope. This one’s an open and shut case. 🙃

Quick Intro

My mom has been suffering from some pain in her back for the last few months (*sad face*) so she’d gone to see a doctor. The doctor gave her a prescription for a cream that was supposed to help alleviate the pain that she was feeling. After she got home, she asked me to open it for her.

My Goal

I just literally needed to open the tube.

My Experience

I’ve opened a few tubes in my day, so hadn’t been expecting to see anything different from the norm. Usually, I expect there to be some sort of plastic or silver film covering the opening of the tube and I’d either have to use a pair of scissors or the pointy end of its top to pierce the seal.

Instead, there was a plastic seal that looked like a gear standing in my way.

The top had the same shape imprinted in its center, so it was pretty clear to me what needed to happen next. I placed the imprint over the gear-shaped seal, twisted, and *voilá*...off it came.

Dope or Dead?

It’s dope to me. I’ve never seen a seal like this before so it was kind of fun to do. I wasn’t in need of any further instruction or confused about much of anything.

That said, I’m not sure if the novelty of this experience is playing into my assessment (it probably is). I enjoy puzzles and this was like a mini puzzle for me. Other people who don’t find that same pleasure may not have liked it as much.

Also — my mom did ask me to open this for her. I can’t say for sure what that means for the overall UX of opening this product since I’m not able to recall if she was truly unable to open it or if she was just deferring to me because I was closer/already had it in my hand/another reason that doesn’t include her being unable to easily open it herself.

Whatever the case, I’d do it again. And I’d like it.
